Brass Crafted Through Time
Inspired by the ever-changing moon floating quietly in the night sky, the MOON tray expresses the beauty of time in motion. Though the moon may appear constant, it is always changing — a quiet reminder to cherish each passing moment.
Crafted from solid brass, MOON is part of the TOKIBRASS collection, a collaboration between skilled metal artisans at Fujisangyo and the creative design company Tomte. Drawing on techniques refined through the restoration of Japanese shrines and temples, the artisans bring out the full depth and character of brass through meticulous aging processes.
The natural honey-toned finish represents “year zero” brass in its untouched state, while the deep black finish recreates the appearance of brass aged over 150 years. Rather than applying paint, TOKIBRASS uses repeated boiling and sun-drying treatments over the course of several weeks, allowing the material to develop rich, natural depth and texture through time-intensive craftsmanship.
By combining aging techniques with precision masking technology, MOON allows multiple layers of time to coexist within a single object. Both functional and sculptural, it serves not only as a tray, but as a quiet reflection on time, material, and the beauty of gradual change.
