This two-tiered jubako box features a bokashi-nuri finish, created with a subtle gradation of black and vermilion lacquer.
Its richly elegant appearance makes it an ideal choice for serving osechi dishes, an essential part of the New Year’s celebrations in Japan.
Among lacquer colors, black and vermilion are known for their exceptional beauty and are also said to enhance the visual appeal of food, making dishes appear even more appetizing.
The decoration depicts a crane holding a pine twig in its beak—
the Maki-e design titled “Matsukui-zuru” (Crane with Pine Twig) by artist Minoru Obata.
Both pine and crane are traditional auspicious motifs in Japan, symbolizing longevity and good fortune.
Mother-of-pearl (raden) inlay is incorporated throughout the design, adding depth and brilliance and completing this jubako as a truly festive and elegant piece.
