This kuchikiri flower vase features a distinctive form, as if the mouth has been cut at an angle.

Finished in jet-black roiro lacquer, its lustrous surface is adorned with a raised chinkin design of pine branches (matsumori). Pine is an auspicious motif in Japanese culture and, as it is not associated with any specific season, this vase can be enjoyed throughout the year.

When not displaying flowers, the piece may also be appreciated as a sculptural object.
