This higashi sweets tray is finished with a refined gradation of black and vermilion lacquer.
The decoration features a chinkin (gold-inlaid engraving) motif inspired by pine trees gently swaying in the wind.
Pine is regarded as an auspicious symbol in Japan, and as it is not associated with any particular season, the piece can be enjoyed throughout the year.
It may be used as a traditional sweets tray, or displayed as a decorative piece with a plate stand.
In recent years, it has also been enjoyed for everyday use, such as serving salads or pasta as a side plate.
By Kenji Funakake
Size:
Approximately 21.3 cm in diameter
Please note:
- Slight variations in size may occur.
- Each chinkin motif is individually hand-carved by a master chinkin artisan, and minor differences in fine lines and details are to be expected.
- The artisan’s career profile is included.
