This ginkgo-leaf–shaped bowl is finished using the Kagamiko lacquer technique.

Kagamiko refers to a distinctive method in Wajima lacquerware in which the coarsest base powder—normally used only for the undercoating—is also applied to the final layer. This creates a uniquely textured finish.

Unlike conventional lacquerware, the surface has a subtly rough texture, making it resistant to scratches even when using metal utensils such as spoons.

While it is less glossy and showy than highly polished lacquer finishes, it is exceptionally durable, lightweight, and well suited for everyday use.

It works beautifully for curry rice, as well as for salads, pasta, and shared dishes meant to be served at the table.
