Considering modern living spaces and contemporary interior design,
we have created a new style of Hina dolls.
The form of each doll is designed to pursue sculptural beauty.
Model 02
Inspired by the Edo-period aesthetic concept “Shijūhatcha-Hyakunezumi” — meaning “Forty-eight shades of brown and one hundred shades of gray” — this piece is crafted exclusively in white fabrics in the kimekomi* style.
During the Edo era, luxury was restricted by law, and people expressed their elegance through subtle dye variations of browns and grays. This refined sensibility came to be known as Shijūhatcha-Hyakunezumi, a symbol of Edo chic.
No facial features are painted, allowing the work to emphasize the pure elegance of form.
We highly recommend this piece for those who value refined interior styling.
*What is Kimekomi?
Kimekomi is a traditional Japanese doll-making technique in which fabric is tucked into finely carved grooves on a wooden or molded base.
Instead of sewing, the cloth is “inserted” (kimekomu) into the surface, creating smooth and elegant patterns that form the doll’s clothing.
Originally developed in the 18th century in Kyoto, this method produces dolls with a gentle, refined appearance and beautifully contoured costumes.
